Orthopaedic and diabetic footwear made for feet that need more than extra width

When ordinary shoes no longer fit comfortably, width is rarely the only issue. Swelling, bunions, hammer toes, neuropathy, sensitive feet and custom orthotics all change the way a shoe needs to fit — often calling for more depth, additional toe room, adjustable fastening or a sole designed to manage pressure differently.

TDO Therapy designs and manufactures orthopaedic and diabetic footwear around exactly these needs.

Who we are

TDO Therapy was founded in Istanbul in 2005. Our founder had spent his career in the pharmaceutical industry, working in diabetes care, and kept meeting the same problem: people whose feet needed looking after, and very little footwear built to do it properly. Working alongside podiatric and pedorthic practitioners, he spent several years developing the first designs around a single idea — that looking after feet early matters far more than reacting once something has already gone wrong.

Every pair we sell is still made by hand in that same factory, and that principle still shapes the materials we choose, the lasts we create and the way every shoe is constructed.

Today our footwear is exported to markets across Europe, the Middle East and beyond, supplying national health institutions, hospitals and private clinics as well as individual customers.

The name TDO represents the three principles at the centre of our work: Therapeutic. Diabetic. Orthopaedic. Those are the three things every shoe we make has to be.

TDO Therapy in the United Kingdom

We began supplying customers in the United Kingdom in 2018 through TDO Therapy Limited, working with healthcare professionals. As more people began contacting us directly, looking for footwear they could not find through the NHS or on the high street, we opened our first UK showroom in Farnham, Surrey in January 2026.

Registered medical devices

TDO Therapy footwear is registered with the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a Class I medical device, and our products are CE marked.

This reflects the purpose behind our footwear. We do not simply make soft comfort shoes; we design therapeutic footwear intended to accommodate, support and help protect feet with more complex requirements. Our focus is always on fit, pressure management, protection and everyday wearability.

Working with healthcare professionals

In the United Kingdom, our footwear reaches patients through approved partners supplying the NHS, alongside private clinics and healthcare providers.

We work with podiatrists, orthotists, diabetes teams and other clinicians looking for footwear that can accommodate feet beyond the limits of standard retail shoes. Our range covers different widths, depths, sole constructions and fastening options, helping them find something appropriate for a wide variety of patient needs.

“I have been using TDO footwear for my patients for over 10 years now. The quality of the leather and stitching is excellent which is especially important for patients with diabetes and insensate feet. The absence of stitching in the toe box, the generous space allowance, removeable insole, stable sole unit with a rocker sole and a range of widths and depths and fastenings are particular features which make them ideal for those who need more than a high street purchased shoe but are not yet in the category of bespoke footwear. The sole unit is also suitable for adding wedges, rockers and raises as needed.”

What makes our footwear different

We are not a footwear brand that commissions standard shoes from an outside supplier and adds its own label. We control the complete manufacturing process — the design of the lasts, the leather, the lining, the cushioning and the sole. Every detail matters, so we keep every detail in our own hands.

Our shoes are made using 100% natural calf leather uppers with a soft, seamless leather lining. The smooth interior helps minimise rubbing against sensitive areas, while the natural leather gradually adapts to the shape of the foot. Between the outer leather and the lining sits a layer of adaptive memory foam, cushioning the foot and accommodating natural changes in shape and swelling through the day.

The result is a shoe that is soft where it meets the foot and structured where it needs to be.

The upper cushions. The sole holds. Where an ordinary comfort shoe gives way wherever the foot presses against it, ours is built on a semi-rigid sole that keeps its shape — firm and supportive through the arch, with controlled flexibility at the forefoot so the foot can still move naturally as you walk.

We are not selling fashion. We are solving a problem — although people are often surprised to find that our shoes do not look medical, even though every feature on them is there for a reason. Recent collections have introduced new colours and more contemporary shapes, because customers asked for them.

Built around fit — not just width

A wider shoe is not necessarily a better-fitting shoe.

Length and width matter, but they are only part of the picture. For many people, internal depth, toe-box shape, instep volume and heel security are what decide whether a shoe is genuinely comfortable.

That is why TDO Therapy shoes are produced across four fittings:

  • EE – M last: Regular fit
  • EEE – G last: Wide fit
  • 4E – K last: Wide and deep fit
  • 6E – H last: Extra-wide and extra-deep fit

These lasts allow us to accommodate a broad range of foot shapes, including swollen feet, bunions, hammer toes and feet that need additional space for an orthotic or brace.

Every TDO Therapy shoe has a removable insole, creating room for a custom orthotic, diabetic insole or alternative footbed without crowding the toes. Many styles also feature adjustable straps or laces, so the fit can be altered as swelling changes through the day.

How to choose the right shoe fitting

Features across the range

Depending on the style, TDO Therapy footwear may include:

  • Extra width and depth for difficult-to-fit or swollen feet
  • Wide, anatomically shaped toe boxes
  • Seamless interiors to help reduce rubbing
  • Removable insoles for custom orthotics
  • Adaptive memory-foam cushioning
  • Adjustable straps or laces
  • Structured heel support
  • Semi-rigid soles that stay supportive through the arch while allowing natural flex at the forefoot
  • Rocker soles designed to encourage a smoother walking motion and redistribute pressure
  • Natural leather uppers that gradually adapt to the foot

These features can make our footwear suitable for people living with diabetes, neuropathy, oedema, bunions, hammer toes and other foot conditions — as well as anyone who simply needs a deeper, more supportive or orthotic-friendly shoe.

It is worth saying that supportive footwear is not only for people who already have a diagnosis. The natural padding under the foot thins as we get older, which is why shoes that felt perfectly comfortable for years can start to feel hard underfoot. Starting earlier usually means fewer compromises later.

Because every foot is different, we always recommend choosing footwear according to the shape, measurements and individual requirements of the foot, not the condition name alone.

Visit our Farnham showroom

49 Downing Street, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7PH
Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm

An appointment with us has more in common with visiting a clinic than with a traditional shoe shop. We chose Farnham because it is straightforward to reach by road and rail, and because it is a town where people can take their time over the visit rather than rushing it.

During a fitting, we measure both feet, assess the width and depth required, watch how you walk, and look at how the shoe sits around the toes, instep and heel. If you already use a custom orthotic, bring it with you so we can check it inside the shoe. You will have time to walk in the shoes and compare styles and fittings before deciding.

The fitting is free, and there is no obligation to buy. An appointment takes anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour, depending on what you need. If a shoe is not right for you, we will say so — sending someone away in the wrong pair helps nobody.

We welcome customers from across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex, as well as people who travel further after struggling to find suitable orthopaedic, diabetic, wide or extra-deep footwear elsewhere.

You can also send us your measurements and order online, though we encourage a visit wherever possible. Sizes vary between styles, and the right amount of support differs from person to person — some people do better on a rocker sole, others need more stability underfoot. That is difficult to judge at a distance.

We also offer VAT relief on eligible footwear for customers who are chronically sick or disabled.

Whether you shop online, visit our Farnham showroom or come to us through a healthcare professional, our aim is the same: to help you find footwear that fits your feet, supports your needs and stays comfortable through the day.
