Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis commonly causes pain around the heel and arch, often most noticeable during the first steps after rest or when walking on hard surfaces.

These walking shoes for plantar fasciitis are selected to combine underfoot cushioning with a secure, structured fit. Closed backs and adjustable fastenings help hold the heel in the shoe, while the sole is firmer through the heel and arch area and more flexible towards the forefoot. Removable cushioned footbeds provide support beneath the heel and arch and can be exchanged for a prescribed orthotic where required. The right fit should feel secure without pressing across the toes or instep.

More about our shoes for plantar fasciitis

To choose between them, start with when you need them. If the first steps out of bed are the problem, a shoe you can leave by the bed and get straight into matters more than anything else — look at the touch-fasten styles. If you are on your feet all day, look at the models with the deepest cushioning under the heel. If you wear a prescribed orthotic, our insole lifts out of every pair.

Why the back of the shoe matters here

A closed, firm heel counter stops the heel sliding and rocking inside the shoe. Backless styles and mules leave it free, which is why they are kept out of this collection even where the rest of the shoe would suit.

The 1 cm insole — arch and metatarsal dome

Selected models use a 1 cm moulded footbed with a contoured arch and a tear-drop shaped metatarsal support. Other models use our 6 mm removable footbed; check the product specification for the supplied option. Both types lift out.

Wide fit shoes for heel pain, EE to 6E

Four fittings, made on our own lasts in our own factory since 2005. A wider fitting keeps the length and adds width and depth across the forefoot — useful if you have been sizing up to get comfortable.

Questions we are asked

Should I wear shoes indoors with plantar fasciitis?

Some people prefer supportive footwear indoors rather than walking barefoot on hard floors. Follow the advice given for your own heel pain and choose an indoor style that fits securely without pressing.

Can I use my own orthotics in these?

Yes. Take our insole out first; the depth underneath is what makes room for yours.

Are there sandals in this collection?

No. The current collection contains closed-back shoes, trainers and boots. Our sandals are listed separately under wide fit sandals.

Persistent heel pain is worth having looked at. See a podiatrist or your GP if it has lasted more than a few weeks, is getting worse, or you have pain at night. Footwear is one part of managing it.
